Possible relative

Domenico Ricciardi

Domenico Ricciardi, born 29 August 1891 in San Giuliano del Sannio, is a strong candidate for Tony Iacofano's maternal grandfather. Existing accepted and proposed repo sources identify Mary Ricciardi's parents as Domenic/Dominic Ricciardi and Christina/Christania Polletta/Pauletta. The new image-backed 1920 declaration and 1927 naturalization petition give Domenico's exact birth date, Italian-origin locality, wife Cristina, and children Maria, Nicola, and Angelina, while the user-supplied FamilySearch birth index gives parents Nicolangelo Ricciardi and Maria di Niro. A proposed Providence passenger manifest candidate has also been located, but it conflicts on residence/birthplace and initial U.S. destination, so it should remain a review-gated arrival clue.

Why this is not settled yet

1891 –

  • Can the original San Giuliano del Sannio birth register image for certificate No. 62 be viewed to verify Domenico's birth and parents?
  • Is the 1920 Providence passenger manifest entry J68G-FQ7 the same Domenico Ricciardi despite its S. Giovanni S. locality, Rockford destination, possible prior U.S. residence, and 12 October arrival date?
  • Can Domenico's full Fold3/NARA naturalization file be obtained and compared with the existing FamilySearch declaration/petition images, especially the indexed Other (1926) and Oath of Allegiance (1927) pages?
  • Does the 1942 World War II draft card or death certificate corroborate San Giuliano del Sannio, exact birth date, and spouse/family identity?
  • How should the conflict be resolved between the 1927 petition saying Maria, Nicola, and Angelina were born in Italy and later U.S. records saying Mary/Nick/Angie were born in Ohio?
  • Can Cristina/Christina/Christania Polletta/Pauletta be identified in Italian civil records and tied to the Finizia/Sepino lead, if that separate path is real?

Notes

  • Lead created 24 April 2026 from image-backed naturalization documents and user-supplied FamilySearch indexed birth details.
  • The naturalization images are strong evidence for Domenico's birth date, origin locality, arrival, residence, and wife/children as reported by him.
  • A proposed 1920 Providence passenger manifest candidate was added on 24 April 2026. It matches the ship/name/arrival-port clue but conflicts with the San Giuliano/Cleveland pattern and needs user review before any immigration event is created.
  • Fold3 public metadata found on 24 April 2026 identifies a subscriber-gated NARA M1995 naturalization file for Ricciardi, Domenico, file id 124286490, cluster `116.DSNEv6UI3ASKmkXx0zuFBQ`, with 9 images including Other (1926), Petition for Naturalization (1927), and Oath of Allegiance (1927). The repo already has FamilySearch declaration/petition images, so the full Fold3/NARA file should be compared before adding duplicate source records; image retrieval is tracked in HIR-20260424-004.
  • The 1891 birth index is still index-only; do not treat the parent names as image-verified until the original San Giuliano del Sannio register is reviewed.
  • Do not promote this lead or update Mary Ricciardi's canonical person record until the proposed source set is reviewed and accepted.
