Dorothy D. Ponceby / Dorothy Pastis

The Ohio Death Record Index lists Dorothy D. Ponceby dying in Cuyahoga County on 20 February 1956. A Cuyahoga County Probate Court historical marriage index entry separately records Donald E. Ponceby as groom and Dorothy Pastis as bride, case 1900ML947317, volume 474, page 0358. Dorothy Pastis may be the same person as Dorothy D. Ponceby, a prior or later spouse in Donald's Ohio trail, or a different Dorothy entirely; the full marriage record and death certificate are needed before accepting the connection.

Why this is not settled yet

Dates not yet resolved

  • Is Dorothy Pastis in the Cuyahoga marriage index the same person as Dorothy D. Ponceby who died in Cuyahoga County on 20 February 1956?
  • Does Dorothy's Ohio death certificate name a spouse, parents, residence, or informant?
  • What actual marriage date, ages, prior-marriage statuses, residences, and parents appear on the full Donald E. Ponceby/Dorothy Pastis marriage record?
  • Is Dorothy D./Dorothy Pastis a separate person from Jane N. and Helen L./M., or part of the same later-spouse trail?

Notes

Notes

  • Lead created 22 April 2026 from the Ohio History Connection death index.
  • Cleveland Public Library CONTENTdm/API searches on 23 April 2026 did not produce a direct Dorothy D. Ponceby directory entry; no Cleveland directory source currently connects Dorothy to Donald Edwin Ponceby.
  • Interment.net's Lakewood Park Cemetery index, checked on 23 April 2026, lists Dorothy Ponceby in section 9, lot 124, space 3, with death on 20 February 1956 and burial on 23 February 1956; it corroborates the date but does not prove relationship.
  • On 25 April 2026, a Cuyahoga County Probate Court web docket search found Donald E. Ponceby as groom and Dorothy Pastis as bride in case 1900ML947317, volume 474, page 0358. The docket uses 1900 as a historical placeholder and does not state the actual marriage date.
  • The same Cuyahoga search also surfaced a Dorothy Pastis bride entry with George Martin in case 1900ML261743, volume 570, page 0046. This was not ingested during the Donald-focused pass, but it means Dorothy Pastis should not be merged with Dorothy D. Ponceby until the full marriage records are reviewed.
  • Do not update any canonical person record based on this lead alone.
